Scott Helms is the founding Artistic Director of Desert Overture Wind Symphony in Phoenix, AZ. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Pride Band Alliance (formerly known as the Lesbian & Gay Band Association), and was a featured conductor for the 2011, 2014, and 2016 LGBA Conferences in Seattle, Ft. Lauderdale, and Palm Springs, respectively.  He was the Assistant Artistic Director for the Team Band concert at Gay Games IX in Cleveland in 2014. Scott's article, "Self-Editing Techniques for Band Musicians", was published in the Journal of the Association of Concert Bands in October 2021, and he has presented workshops on the same topic at the LGBA Southwest Regional in Phoenix and at Pride Bands Alliance conferences in Houston and Chicago.
